CHIRP is a free, open-source tool for programming your amateur radio. It supports a large number of manufacturers and models, as well as provides a way to interface with multiple data sources and formats.

  • HamClock Cronograph Software

HamClock is a kiosk-style application that provides real time space weather, radio propagation models, operating events and other information particularly useful to the radio amateur. HamClock was introduced in my October 2017 QST article and continues to be maintained and expanded.

For quick start on Raspberry Pi or other UNIX-like operating systems see the Desktop tab below. The User Guide tab provides detailed operating instructions. Explore the additional tabs for further supporting information..

  • Simon's World Map

Simon's World Map is a simple display which shows me at the very least:

    • Current Time
    • Sunrise / Sunset
    • Greyline map
    • DX stations

There are commercial geo clock solutions such as Geochron, but as a programmer with spare 4k monitors and computers I decided to write my own, that way I have exactly what I want.

This is a rewrite of a previous project from many years ago. It requires minimal CPU power, will run on any Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 system using x86 architecture. Written to learn new areas of Direct2D graphics and new features of Visual Studio 2022. As time permits the program will be updated; there are interesting ideas in the pipeline.

  • Grid Tracker Software

GridTracker is a warehouse of amateur radio information presented in an easy to use interface, from live traffic decodes, logbooks, real-time spot reports, weather, current solar conditions and more!

  • FLDigi Software

fldigi - Digital modem program for Linux, Free-BSD, Apple Mac OS X, Windows XP, NT, Win2000, Vista and Win7.

  • Mac Ham Radio Software

MacHamRadio (www.MacHamRadio.com) started in 2003 by Steve Muncy, NI5V as a site to promote ham software for the newly released Mac OSX.

  • Dog Park Software

"Some of the best ham radio software available for the Mac - or any platform for that matter!".

Since 1991 Dog Park Software Ltd. has been committed to providing the Amateur Radio community with the very best in Amateur Radio Software so that Hams using the Macintosh platform around the world can enjoy the same computer-radio interraction and enhancement that PC Hams take for granted - but with the added flexibility, security, user friendliness and stability that Macintosh users are accustomed to.

  • DigiPan

DigiPan stands for "Digital Panoramic Tuning" and brings the ease and simplicity of PANORAMIC reception and transmission to PSK31and PSK63 operation. DigiPan provides a panoramic display of the frequency spectrum in the form of an active dial scale extending the full width of the computer screen. Depending upon the transceiver IF bandwidth, it is possible to "see" as many as 40 to 50 PSK31 stations at one time.

  • EchoLink

`EchoLink® software allows licensed Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using streaming-audio technology.  The program allows worldwide connections to be made between stations, or from computer to station, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio's communications capabilities.  There are more than 200,000 validated users worldwide — in 162 of the world's 193 nations — with about 5,000 online at any given time.

  • SatPC32

The programs SatPC32.Exe (in the following: SatPC) and Wisat32.Exe (in the following: Wisat) calculate the tracks of earth orbiting satellites. The calculations are based on the SGP4/SDP4 model, the results therefore are highly accurate Both programs are included in the SatPC32 program package.

SatPC displays the audibility-areas of one or several selected  satellites within a world-map and shows the results in text-lines below the map. Wisat represents the satellite positions in real-time in list-form. Both programs update their calculations continuously  in steps of one second. The differences between SatPC and Wisat result from the absence of the graphic output in Wisat.

  • Orbitron

Orbitron is a satellite tracking system for radio amateur and observing purposes. It's also used by weather professionals, satellite communication users, astronomers, UFO hobbyist and even astrologers.

Application shows the positions of satellites at any given moment (in real or simulated time). It's FREE (Cardware) and it's probably one of the easiest and most powerful satellite trackers, according to opinions of thousands of users from all over the world.

  • MixW

MixW is a multi mode multi functional software for every day logging and Contests. It has many useful features that make your QSO logging process almost a 100% automatic procedure.

MixW for digital modes may be used without TNC. The only requirements are a computer running Windows 9x, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 operating system with compatible soundcard. One of the RigExpert USB interfaces is recommended.

You may download fully functional 15-day trial version of MixW and try it for free.

  • PSK Reporter (Digimode Automatic Propagation Reporter)

This started out as a project to automatically gather reception records of digimode activity and then make those records available in near realtime to interested parties — typically the amateur who initiated the communication. The way that it works is that many amateurs will run a client that will monitor received traffic for callsigns (the pattern 'de callsign callsign') and, when seen, will report this fact. This is of interest to the amateur who transmitted adn they will be able to see where their signal was received. The pattern chosen is typically part of a standard CQ call. The duplicate check is to make sure that the callsign is not corrupted. The rules for protocols like FT8 are different as the callsigns are protected by error correction. You do still need to call CQ in order for your signal to be reported.

  • WSJT (Weak Signal Communication Software)

WSJT-X and MAP65 are open-source programs designed for weak-signal digital communication by amateur radio. Normal usage requires a standard SSB transceiver and a personal computer with soundcard, or the equivalent. SDR-style hardware including the SDR-IQ, Perseus, SoftRock, and FUNcube Dongle is supported by MAP65. All of the programs are available free of charge, licensed under the GNU General Public License. Installation packages for WSJT-X are available for Windows, Linux, and OS X, and MAP65 ais Windows only. For further details about source code and operating systems.

  • 73 Linux (A collection of Raspberry Pi Software)

73 Linux is the next evolution of Build a Pi. Not only does 73 Linux support Raspberry Pi but it also supports x86_64 Debian based systems. Now you can load up a laptop running Ubuntu or Mint with the same ease as previously on the Pi. To keep with the Build a Pi traditions, you have FULL control over the build unlike pre-built images. It allows you to choose the applications you want to install and skip the ones you don’t need. This keeps your system as lean and mean as possible.

Some apps will load on other versions of Linux systems like Debian Linux.
